Gas – Domestic

As a subsidiary of Curoil, Curgas runs the liquefied petroleum gas (lpg) plant on the premises of the Curacao refinery and distributes propane gas in 20 lbs, 100 lbs cylinders and bulk installations to domestic and commercial clients in Curacao. In addition, we offer 20 lbs users the possibility to fill up of their cylinders at one of our gas filling stations, strategically located on the island. In Bonaire, Curoil’s subsidiary Curoil Bonaire is responsible for the distribution of 20 lbs and 100 lbs gas cylinders on the island.

Our team has extensive knowledge and experience to assist with all gas related services, ranging from a pressure test to a full domestic or commercial bulk installation. Our services and installations follow NFPA 58 guidelines and include all necessary materials and gas tanks for a solid and safe gas installation. Whether you’re a commercial client or use gas for domestic purposes, we will make the process as simple as possible for you.

100 LBS cylinders

We offer a standard installation package which includes two 100 lbs cylinders and all necessary materials for a domestic installation. We also offers services to change, move, extend or otherwise modify your gas installation. Visit one of our salespoints located on the islands of Curacao and Bonaire for more information.

Advice: build a niche!

For an efficient gas delivery, we recommend you to build a niche for the cylinder storage outside your gates.

Requirements:

  • Plastered concrete rear wall: +/- 170 cm high
  • Concrete floor: +/- 100 cm long, 50 cm wide and 9 cm high
  • Dig a canal from your niche to your kitchen

Checklist for your gas installation

Please make sure you meet the following requirements before applying for a gas installation.

  1. The gas cylinders must be accessible at all times.
  2. The cylinders must be located outside on a concrete floor or blocks, at least 1,5 meters away from electric motors, outlets for air conditioners, gate mechanisms and/or other sources of ignition.
  3. The gas cylinders must be placed in a well ventilated area.
  4. During installation please be sure to have an active electric service available and the gas stove that needs to be connected present at the site.
  5. For installing propane cylinders on your property, we need the formal authorization by the owner of the property. If you are the owner, you will need one of the following proofs of ownership: copy of notarial deed, copy OZB (real estate tax), copy from land registry documents (kadaster) or land leasehold agreement (domeinbeheer erfpacht huurgrondboek). If you are not the owner of the property, you will need a written approval from the owner for the LPG installation and one of the above menioned proofs of ownership from the owner.

Tips for safe use of 100 lbs

  • Always place cylinders outside, in a well ventilated area.
  • Always place cylinders in an upright position and on a concrete floor or blocks.
  • Do not place cylinders near electric motors (minimum distance: 1.5 M).
  • Keep the cylinders as far away as possible from your stove or oven (minimum distance: 3 M)
  • Turn off gas tap and cylinder valves when on vacation.
  • After a vacation, always open windows and doors for ventilation before turning on your gas range.
  • Have your gas installation checked every five years by an authorized professional.

Good to know

  • We will not perforate kitchen cabinets.
  • Customers with a niche must also dig a canal.
  • We will perforate walls only on specific directions of the client and cannot be held liable for any damage occurring while perforating the wall.
  • Prices for materials and cylinders content are subject to change. Charges are based on the prices current at the time of installation.
  • If we need to pay a return visit, additional costs will be charged.
  • Prior to an installation we are required to perform a site inspection for safety purposes.
  • Curgas and Curoil Bonaire are the only entities authorised to refill and transport cylinders of 100 lbs.
  • Both 20 lbs and 100 lbs cylinders are property of Curgas and Curoil Bonaire and cannot be sold to third parties by clients.

20 LBS (refillable cylinders)

For low volume propane users we offer the possibility to purchase 20 lbs cylinders. New cylinders are available at Curgas Muizenberg and at Curoil Bonaire located at Aruacoweg. Empty domestic 20 lbs cylinders can be exchanged for a full cylinder at one of our resellers listed below. Also 20 lbs, 32 lbs and 40 lbs cylinders can be refilled at one our filling stations in St Rosa, Muizenberg or Tera Cora in Curacao. We offer cylinders with a snap-on connection for domestic use and cylinders with a valve for commercial use.

Tips for safe use of 20 lbs

  • Never place cylinders inside the house or cabinets.
  • Don’t try to fix damaged hoses, always replace them.
  • Make sure the opening of cylinder has two rubber rings.
  • Always use regulators with lock.

What to do in case of a gas leak

  1. Close the gas tap and the valve of the cylinder.
  2. Open doors and windows to ventilate the area.
  3. Do not turn on the stove.
  4. Do not smoke, do not turn on light switches, and do not use electronic devices.
  5. Go outside and call Curgas’s emergency number.

How can you detect a gas leak

  1. You will smell a odor similar to sulfur or rotten eggs.
  2. You will hear a hissing sound.
  3. You will experience symptoms like headache, nausea, trouble breathing and/or eye irritation.
  4. Check by doing the soap and water test. If you see bubbles forming there is a gas leak.
  5. You will see a white residue on the gas pipes.
  6. Check the color of the flames. It should be blue.
